OGE Legislative Proposals

The Ethics in Government Act (EIGA) has been in effect for over 30 years. It has worked well, but as with any statute it needs to evolve to ensure its continued effectiveness in light of practical experience and application. In the last 10 years, OGE has submitted to Congress revisions of EIGA for consideration. OGE has also submitted several reports to Congress that contain legislative recommendations and contributed to other Congressionally-mandated reports.

OGE Legislative Proposals

  • Proposed Ethics in Government Act Amendments of 2008 (PDF). This proposal contained language that would have streamlined and simplified the public financial disclosure requirements applicable to senior officials of all three branches of the Federal Government.
  • Proposed Ethics in Government Act Amendments of 2003 (PDF). This proposal contained language that would have streamlined and simplified the public financial disclosure requirements applicable to senior officials of all three branches of the Federal Government.
